Busks, for those of you who have not heard the term, are metal clasps that close the centre front of a corset. Opening busks did not come into use until the mid 1800’s. A corset busk consists of two long pieces of steel, one with steel knobs and the other one steel loops/eyes. The busk pieces are sewn into the corset on either side of the centre front, lacing is still used in the back or sides but the busk allows getting into and out of the corset by oneself. Stainless steel, "spoon" shaped busk. Spoon shape is evident both profile and frontal view. "Spoon" bowl accommodates the wearer’s stomach both in the added girth and the convex face at the base of the busk. This European busk is from Farthingales, North America's leader in excellent quality steel corset products for long term use. Corset Busk - Spoon, 14" (35.6 cm) with 7 knobs. #91-8555-14.
