Cotton Blends

Pickford Stripe is a lovely Italian milled stretch linen/cotton blend.  Please note, there is no crossgrain stretch, and 30% lengthwise stretch, so the manufacturer intended this fabric to be cut across the grain to utilize the stretch.  This will orient the stripes as vertical, rather than horizontal.  If you are not used to calculating yardage for cutting across the grain, simply lay your pattern pieces down side-by-side in a row, then measure from left to right at the widest part.  You most likely will need less fabric than your pattern calls for.

For many of us there is still a chill in the air, so we proffer Tyros Cozy, a heathered charcoal French terry sweater knit.  Rogie says she constructed the FitNice System Surena Jacket (along with the FitNice System Master Top with scoop neck shown in the photo) in under two hours and she loves wearing them together. We don’t have the exact contents for the terry sweater knit, but the ticket from the mill says CVC, which is technical lingo for chief value cotton, indicating that this is most likely a poly cotton blend with over 50% cotton. You’ll love the heavier weight of this all-way stretch sweater knit when the nights turn chilly.

When we think of the tropics, palm trees swaying in an ocean breeze springs to mind. We have incorporated Lei Palm, a richly colored poly-cotton twill, to brighten up your summer wardrobe. Thinner than a denim, but more substantial than a broadcloth, choose this woven fabric for any sewing pattern that calls for a medium weight woven, like slacks, shorts, Capris, a summer jacket or a light bag. Lei Royal is a lightweight stretch-woven poly-cotton-spandex blend.  It is light enough to be worn as a top, and tightly woven enough to handle being made into shorts, slacks, or a skirt. The color is rich, and the hand is soft.

Another solid option for shorts or a shirt is Lu’au Aqua, a stretch-woven poly-cotton lightweight twill. This fabric has the soft feel of a brushed chino.  It is lightweight enough to wear as a summer top, and substantial enough to wear as shorts, slacks and a golf or tennis skirt. It also takes embroidery very well.
