Two perennial favorite fabrics have been combined into one tempting textile.  Sinensis Red Check is a 100% cotton fabric cross-woven of red and white in a gingham check that has been given a seersucker treatment. Sew up shorts and a summer jacket for him, her and them, or whip up a cap sleeve top for something quick and cool to toss on.  Play around with bias cuts for side panels, pockets, binding, collars and cuffs. Moving to our more delicate side, we present Sinensis Philippa, a monochromatic printed cotton lawn.  Wear it as a blouse over a bandeau or tank of the preceding red, or the following white, cotton knit.  Cotton lawns are semi-sheer, which help keep you cool in summer.  This is also a wonderful choice for sewing a long nightshirt.

We purchased Chá Baroque from a New York supplier that specializes in reselling designer deadstock.  If you love it, order early because we can not get more of it. This lightweight cotton lawn features a print of champagne colored baroque style leaves offset by navy.  The fabric is semi-sheer with a crisp hand. You may find it softens when washed, so pre-shrinking is highly recommended (as it is with most cottons).

Chá Stripe was manufactured in Itlay by the Albini Group, a company known for their exquisite fabrics.  This handsome stripe is all cotton, semi-sheer, and incredibly soft to the touch.  The stripes run horizontal, but you can cut your pattern the European way across the grain to orient the stripes as vertical.  Unusually wide for a cross-woven cotton, at 60” you won’t need to order as much as you would with most of our other woven cottons.

Now for something unusual.  Behold Chá Branches, featuring stems and leaves splayed across an white linen base cloth.  Alternating stipes of looser and tighter weaving provide a textural flair.  We chose this as a companion to the following beige linen blend. Sew a loose summer jacket or over-shirt, a lined summer dress, or drawcord pants to wear over your bathing suit while hanging with friends.

As the name implies, Chá Wisp has a more open weave, adding to your comfort when a breeze hits you on a hot day.  Rayon provides the softness, and also tamps down on the wrinkles so they won’t be as pronounced as with a pure linen.

Shay Stripe is a white cotton broadcloth with maroon and rose cords woven into the weft. These cords provide subtle texture, and a sophisticated playfulness.  At 60” wide, you can lay your pattern piece out across the grain so the stripes run vertical instead of horizontal if you prefer.
