Folkwear #113 Japanese Kimono pattern is for a yukata, or informal, unlined kimono for men and women of all sizes, usually made of cotton. All traditional kimono are cut and constructed in the same way, with variations only in length and in the style and width of the sleeves. Sized for men and women.

Folkwear #116 - Shirts of Russia & Ukraine - Unisex Sewing Pattern

Folkwear #116 Shirts of Russia & Ukraine pattern features popular shirts, worn by late 19th-century peasants and nobility alike. They reflect a merging of European and Central Asian textile traditions, creating a unique folk art. All three shirts are narrower than many ethnic styles; each has a high snug collar, a lined shoulder area, and narrow side panels. 

View A is typical straight-sleeved Ukrainian shirt; the center front opening has facings turned to the outside and closes with hooks and eyes. 

View B, from North-Central Ukraine, features an overlap side closing. The sleeves are gathered into narrow cuffs; cuffs and collar may be fastened with hooks and eyes or traditional button-and-loop closures. 

The off-center side placket in View C is a Russian feature. Its folded construction conceals a buttoned closing. 

In all three styles, the collar, sleeve hems or cuffs and front opening may be left untrimmed, finished with braid, or embroidered. Authentic embroidery designs are given for each style.

Pattern runs small.  Please size up a size to give yourself enough room for any adjustments. Folkwear recommends you ease the collar into the neck, hand basting first to get the ease correct. 

Folkwear #117 Croatian Shirt pattern. Until World War II in the mid-20th century, peasants, farmers, and shepherds wore this tucked linen shirt in the Pannonian Basin, the norther farming district of the country then known as Yugoslavia. Simple straight lines give this shirt or dress an elegant look for any occasion. The thigh-length shirt is constructed of straight panels of fabric, which are then tucked in front and pleated into a shoulder yoke in front and back. The sleeves with underarm gussets are pleated into cuffs. The notched collar and cuffs show the influence of tailored urban dress. The shirt, which has a front opening self-placket, buttons down the front and is offered in a low-calf dress length for women.

Folkwear #119 - Sarouelles - Indo-African Pants - Unisex Sewing Pattern

View A: the Turkish Pants are full and flowing, gathered at the waist with a drawstring and at the ankles with elastic. 

View B: the African Sarouelles, sized for men and women, have a simple drawstring waist with legs that taper to the ankle. Inseam gussets allow freedom of movement. These comfortable pants are quick and easy to sew. 

View C: the legs of our Indian Pants are gathered in the front above the thighs into a wide hip panel, which rises to a drawstring waist. Shaped cuffs above the ankle are faced and traditionally embellished with simple machine embroidery.

The Haori (HOW-ree), although traditionally worn on formal occasions by men, is now most often seen on women layered over a kimono for street wear. Sized for men and women. Folkwear #204 Missouri River Boatman's Shirt pattern. This loosely fitted knee-length shirt was worn by raftsmen and fur traders on the Missouri, Mississippi, and Ohio Rivers in the mid-19th century. It is frequently dipicted in the paintings of George Caleb Bingham. Full sleeves with underarm gussets are gathered and attached into a shoulder yoke. A narrow or convertible cuff may be used. A neck gusset set into the shoulders gathers into a simple turned-back collar, which is loosely fastened with a tape tie. The bottom tf the front oepning was oftern strengthened with a needle-lace godet and decorated with the wearer's initials in cross-stitch. The long side opeinings were also reinforced. Our boatman's Shirt can be worn today by men as an overshirt, or shortened to tuck in. The original length is tunic length on women.

Patterns - Folkwear #233 Glamour Girl Dress. Glamour oozed in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s, and this is the daytime dress the starlets wore. A close-fitting bodice is highlighted by a narrow "V" neckline. Front bodice and skirt gather into a curved midriff that ties at center front, providing snug individual fit. A fitting back hip yoke ensured a smooth line. The flared skirt draped gracefully at center front and back bias seams. The three-quarter length sleeves are distinctively gathered at the elbow. dress zips at the left side seam. Shoulder pads are essential for the proper early 1940s silhouette.

Folkwear #238 Le Smoking Jacket pattern. Smoking jackets symbolized sophistication during the 1920s and 1930s, both on the silver screen and in real life. Our classy version features contrasting or quilted lapels, cuffs, and pocket trim. Pattern includes instructions for women's knitted tank top to wear underneath.

Folkwear #240 Rosie the Riveter.  The heroic working women of World War II inspired this factory wardrobe of camp shirt, pleated slacks, and overalls with sweetheart bib.The shirt is styled from men's sport shirts and is know today as a "camp" shirt.  It is timeless is a crisp white cotton and lots of fun made extra-large in bright tropical prints.  The pleated slacks have side pockets and a back zipper. Pattern includes knickers, trousers and shorts.  

Knickers feature button-front fly closure and side pockets.  Below-knee pleat is shaped into cuffs with button closures

Trousers feature high, wide waistband, back darts,  front pleats, side zipper closure on the  left and on-seam pocket on the right.  Trousers fall gracefully straight from the fullest part on the hip.  Ankle-length.

The Shorts feature back zipper closure, inverted box pleats at front and back for a smooth fit through the hip and flattering fullness at the legs.
