Folkwear #128 Russian Settlers' Dress pattern. This complete woman's ensemble includes a Jumper or Sundress (serafan), Blouse (rukava), and Apron (zapon), and maintains the spirit and flavor of Old Russia.
The loose, full serafan is gathered into a band that fits snugly around the body just above the bust. Back gathers are gracefully fitted to the body with a variety of embellishment techniques, and may be made with traditional fullness or in a narrower version. The garment hangs fron shoulder straps that join at center back and hold the voluminous gathers of the Blouse in place.
The sleeves and body of the hip-length Blouse are gathered into a narrow neckband; shoulder yokes are often decorated with traditional Igolochky (Rusian punch-needle embroidery) or cross-stitch.
The Apron is worn over all. It ties at the waist; skirt, bib, and flounce are pleated in place. A narrow ribbon holds bib pleats at the top and ties in back of the neck.
Traditional decoration also includes lace or colored ribbon in rows around the skirts of the Jumper and Apron. Favored fabrics are vibrant floral prints in rayon challis, mixing prints and colors for Jumper and Apron. Blouses are more often of solid bright colors, which highlight the vivd embroidery.
