Folkwear #305 A Japanese Interior
Patterns - Folkwear #305 A Japanese Interior.
Folkwear #305 A Japanese Interior pattern. A traditional Japanese room is a study in simplicity. To the western eye, accustomed to overstuffed furniture crammed into overstuffed rooms, a traditional Japanese room, furnished only with tatami mats on the floor, a few cushions for sitting, and perhaps a storage chest on top of which rests a single bowl or a prized collection, seems impossibly ordered and calm. Many elements of Japanese design can be successfully incorporated into a typical western home. You might start with a few sitting cushions scattered on the floor in front of the fireplace and a futon for the guest room that can be easily tucked away when not in use. In this pattern we have included instructions for making a variety of futon (the Japanese word "futon" describes all types of quilted bedding and floor cushions), noren (decorative curtains), and quilted yogi (sleeping kimono). Handwork techniques are included for sashiko quilting and shibori dyeing.
