Silk taffeta used to be the mainstay of court clothing, the choice fabric for nobility. When the weft threads are different from the warp the silk is referred to as a shot silk, but can also be called a “chagneable” or iridescent. The use of two contrasting colors provides the smooth weave with a depth of character that otherwise would be lacking. We love the richness of Character Taffeta which weaves together a brassy gold weft with a fine black warp thread. Construct a princess seamed top to wear with a skirt sewn from our black wool VF186-04, and a jacket of our tapestry VF186-01, or either brocade VF186-03 or -08.
