The rubber cord is wrapped with the polyester fibers.  This is like a tiny bungee.  This size is the ideal size for sewing PPE face masks with the elastic running behind the ears - it is thin and soft and the wearer won't feel it.  You can sew a casing into the sides of the face covering and tie the elastic, then slip the knot into the casing.  If you are sewing for others, leave the elastic untied so the wearers can tie the elastic into the best size for their faces.

This is like a thin bungee cord.  The rubber core is wrapped by the polyester fibers.  There is good, firm stretch with gret recovery.  

If you are sewing for PPE face coverings and need cord elastic to run behind the ear, we recommend style 7826 which is 1/16" instead of this 1/8".  We find this to be too thick to be comfortable for extended use.
