Also boots, hats, a cloak, and a bodice do not belong with this outfit. Hoods are worn. The hair can also be worn uncovered in elaborate braided hairstyles. Creating a wonderful woolen gown is all in the cutting. A color you love will make a real beauty. Reconstructing History #RH940 - Inverness Coat or Sherlock Cape Sewing Pattern

Look like your favourite movie star in your own Sherlock Holmes Inverness Coat. The Inverness Coat is really more of a cape than a coat. Starting as a single-breasted variation of the Ulster, in the 1870s the cape stopped going all the way around the back and was instead sewn into the armholes in the rear. In the 1880s, sleeves were deemed unnecessary and the armhole was cut away to accommodate movement. Thus the flowing outer garment made famous by Sherlock Holmes was born!

Alpaca Fake Fur Fabric is super soft, medium weight knit style, shaggy-pile fur fabric tipped with a soft ivory. It has wonderful drape for apparel and home decor.  This is a medium weight knit faux fur so you can leave the fur on the seam allowances without adding bulk. For easy cutting lay your pattern pieces on one layer of fur with the wrong side up. Using a chalk or fabric marker trace the pattern piece on the wrong side, then cut through the backing layer only.  Look for more helpful tips on working with Faux Fur and other fabrics in Sandra Betzina's book "More Fabric Savvy".

We'd love to see what you do with this large metal pendant - wear it on a chain, stitch it to a leather jacket or bag, bejewel it for fun. Look closely at the crossbones and you will see a divot in each - you can fill that space with a pointed back jewel, colored resin, or leave it plain.  There is a loop at the top so you can hang this from a chain or a leather strap.  If you are stitching it onto a bag or a jacket, you can stitch through the loop as well as couch around the jawbone for added security and stability.
