Another solid option for shorts or a shirt is Lu’au Aqua, a stretch-woven poly-cotton lightweight twill. This fabric has the soft feel of a brushed chino.  It is lightweight enough to wear as a summer top, and substantial enough to wear as shorts, slacks and a golf or tennis skirt. It also takes embroidery very well.

Michael Raspberry stretch-woven micro-twill is ideal for more structured tops as well as slacks and skirts. It is a weight similar to an Oxford cloth, so not as heavy as a denim, and not as light as a shirting. Cast your eyes on Ponche Intrigue,  a reversible, iridescent brocade twill.  The face features mulberry and dark squash colors, while the reverse is black, red, and blue.  Both sides shimmer with golden threads.  We do recommend lining your garment to make it softer against the skin. There is a slight lengthwise stretch, so if you cut your pattern across the grain you will have some built-in ease.

This high-end, worsted suiting fabric feels like a super 180 wool but it is really a rayon blend. The twisted threads make the fiber wrinkle resistant. Fall in love with chocolate….fabrics, that is. Drape a cowl-neck top from Luthier Honeycomb (VF231-08) to wear with slacks sewn from Luthier B Chord.  The combinations of textures play off of each other well, and the milk chocolate knit looks scrumptious paired with the dark cocoa of the stretch cotton pinwale. Luthier B Chord is a medium weight pinwale corduroy with moderate cross-grain stretch for built-in easy.  It has plenty of body and very little drape, yet is still soft to the touch, making it ideal for sewing jackets and slacks.

Luthier Intrigue is a showstopping stretch denim printed in Korea featuring mottled blue on one side and a 21” border of a wildcat, flowers, and animal spots on the other.  The stretch runs along the grain, which is exactly what you want when cutting out your pattern, allowing the stretch to wrap around you. We recommend sewing a long jacket, a border print dress or overalls, or sew border print jeans. Sew the off-cuts into matching messenger bag.
